Broken Beautifully Music Video

You’re never too broken to be loved. Chicago-based band The Jab partnered with us for a third time to produce a music video from their 2020 Album “Consume” for the song “Broken Beautifully.” This time, they wanted something paired down—more personal and intimate—that would express ideas around seeing the beauty in someone’s brokenness.

We thought an abandoned, but still impressive old house would be the perfect location to flesh out this idea, so we sought the recommendation of a friend who photographs abandoned locations. He pointed us to the perfect spot—an old Victorian Italianate in Momence, IL that was about to undergo rehabilitation. The lead characters, a romantic couple, would be played by band leader and vocalist Jam Alker and actress Kayla Emery Hunt. The narrative elements would be blended with footage of the band performing within the location.

Through a distressed film aesthetic, soft natural light, and wide lenses that highlight the environment, the video shows us that love can look like creating a space for someone to be flawed.
